A couple at my church are downsizing in preparation to move to an assisted living home and they gave me this '68 Magnavox Astro-Sonic console, a load of classical/instrumental records, and a Dual 1226 turntable. The owner said the radio worked; but, the record changer had problems. I even got the instruction book with it and I think I found the Magnavox demo album mixed in with the records.

Then, I stopped in an antiques store and bought a late '40's GE console with the early version VR magnetic cartridge in it. It's a 78 rpm-only unit and I think the record changer was built by Seeburg. It has some small pieces of veneer missing here and there; but, it looks better than a Silvertone I looked at the other day. For $25, I figured I'd give it a shot. Had it not used the VR cartridge, I would have probably left it at the store.

Here's a video I made of these items:

I love the looks of the Magnavox. Small console are my thing they just look neat over the long suckers. The ge is also nice looking with a little work it will be looking like brand new.

Hello,
I just found a Magnavox radio-turntable,model # 260M, serial# 601519, style C198-21. I can not find any info at all. It is in a wooden case that would sit on a table. Also what it might be worth. Thank you

Actually, that changer in your GE is a Stromberg Carlson "slicer" changer.
GE used a number of these in some of their better sets, including the 802 radio, tv, phonograph.
Watch out, those slicers like chipping too thick records.

Very interesting on the GE console that it's AM only.
What is the model/year?
I have a very similar changer in my Truetone D1952 from 1948.

Thanks,

Mike
