I'm curious about those boxsets they have.I like new pressings but it's usually the collectables label(in various color schemes) that are on the individual singles. A few collectables 45s have repros or rough fascimilies of the original labels.I prefer them over the
collectables labeled singles.
So,any owners of these sets, what labels are used on the 45s? I did get 2 neat singles from oldies a while ago-a Sun repro of Jerry Lee Lewis' Lewis Boogie/Return Of Jerry Lee and Jeanie C. Riley's Harper Valley PTA on a Sun repro, altough it was actually originally released on Plantation.

I suspect those "box sets" are similar to what was available in the '60's and '70's. Back then, they would seal many records in a box with only one or two labels that were visible. The "big hit" record would usually be visible and the records that could not be seen were either minor hits are records that were not hits at all. These boxes were usually sold at a discount and it was a way to unload singles that had previously gone unsold. Back then, people often thought of these "filler" records as junk; but, it's highly possible that many of these "junk" records are rare and sought after today.

I suspect the discount box sets sold today are similar. There may be one or two big hit records in the box; but, the rest will likely be unknown artist and artist who had minor hits. Depending on what they want for them, they may be worth the gamble (especially if you like many different artist and styles of music). If you like only "top hit" records; then, you'd probably be wasting your money. I've always been scared to buy these unknown box sets because it would be my luck that they'd send me a bunch of unknown crap from the '80's and '90's.

Concerning the Jeannie C. Riley record on the Sun label, I think I have that same record and the flip side is "Reconsider Me" by Johnny Adams. I think I know how that happened. Sometime in the '60's, the original Sun label was bought by Shelby Singleton. The Plantation label; which, was the original label for "Harper Valley PTA", was also a Shelby Singleton label and I believe "Reconsider Me" was also recorded on a Shelby Singleton label; so, that's probably how both of these songs wound up on a repro Sun label. I bought my copy back in the mid '90's.

Actually, I have a bunch of oldies reissue label records that were bought between the early '90's and the mid-2000's. Over the years, I've gotten rid of quite a few of these records. The only ones I've kicked my butt for getting rid of were the colored vinyl "for jukeboxes only" Beatles records. Back when I bought them, they were selling for $2/ea. at the record store. Now, they are much higher.

Yeah, the Jeanie C Riley/Johnny Adams pairing is odd but they're both great songs.Actually, the box sets I'm interested in are multiple singles by the same artist. There is
a set ofhits by Glen Campbell for example. These sets are reasonably priced but I don't care for them if they're stamped with the Collectables label.Recently from a private sellerI bought a repro of The Channels' The Closer You Are with the Whirlin Disc label on it.Not an original
pressing but it sounds good and I didn't pay an arm and a leg for it.
