Picked unit up today at antique shop for $5.00. Good cabinet but knobs are stuck. Any ideas on how to free them without damage to the cabinet/
Thanks,
Mack

It's not the catalin one, is it? It looks like they don't have set screws, so, loosen the chassis screws, and gently pull rearward. The last set I had, with plastic knobs, was stuck in the freezer. Pulled it out 12 hours later and they slid right off.!

Yes it is the Catalin one. I lucked out on it. It was in a junk box with a tag for 10 bucks. Needs recapping & has some rust on the chassis. Looks like it had spent many years in a barn. I finally removed the knobs with a little heat from a hair dryer & some WD 40 on the shaft.
Thanks,
Mack

I had to remove a shrunken set of knobs off a catalin set recently.
Adding the WD40 on the shaft, then gently rocking the knob back and forth, it eventualy got loose enough to slide off.
I knew that if I tried too hard, I could end up splitting the knob.

Nice find though. Remember to not put in the chassis mounting screws in too tight.

Granted, it was a steal. After I removed the crud I found the bar above the speaker grill is cracked & numerous scratches on it. After the first buffing with Novus 3 it is beginning to look as it should. Was really surprised at the color that came thru.
Many thanks for the replies,
Mack
