In May I received notice that Kodak has sold off the online Kodak Gallery to Shutterfly.com. July 1st it will close and all photos, 5 billion of them, will be transferred to Shutterfly. They did mention it might take months. No problem for me in that photos of family etc are burned onto a cd rom. I use Kodak gallery for ebay photos for selling 78's. I have lots of 78's listed, 1200+, so I don't want to lose the photos posted on my listings. I think once they are posted on Ebay it's in thier system so they won't go away. Is this correct?

My question is this: I take pictures with my Kodak Easyshare camera and I plug in the USB cord into the camera and the camera loads the pictures to Kodak Gallery. After July 1st will my camera then download the photos onto Shutterfly? I have an active account now with Shutterfly so Kodak can link the two accounts for transfer. Maybe a stupid question but I am just nervous about it. 78 selling is a good second income for us. Not a stupid question though if I learn something from it.

Here is the link for Kodak Gallery. I have searched and searched for my answer to no avail. Thanks in advance.

I love my Kodak M340 10MP camera. I also like the others i have had in the past. I do not use kodak software, never have and probably never will. I just upload then right to my hard drive. If i need to edit them i either use a windows program or a freeware program. As long as you actually uploaded the file to eBay, it will stay until you remove it. If you used a photo hosting site provided by kodak then its hard to say. It just depends if they wipe out all the stored data after the transfer takes place. If you are concerned about loosing images, and you have insist on using a photo hosting site, you need to use something like Flickr,Photobucket and similar sites. That way you absolutely know your images will not go anywhere.

"Photos saved in KODAK EASYSHARE Software will continue to be saved there. EASYSHARE Software will no longer connect to KODAK Gallery nor will it connect to the Shutterfly Site."

Between my partner and I, we have six digital cameras ranging from point-and-shoots, which we carry around most of the time, to a couple of Nikon DSLR's. (Don't count so-called cameras in cellphones!) We have never used the manufacturer's software as it contains so much junk and so-called 'enhancements' and also (if you're not careful!) distribute your pictures to somewhere where you have no control over it. (We were warned about this at a meeting of the local camera club.)

We remove the flash cards from the cameras and upload them to a folder in our respective "Image" master folder - then copy them into individual folders according to photo type and give them a title. If we decide they don't need any work, they get archived to an external drive.

I will only put pics on Photobucket as and when required.

A few years ago I used a Kodak Easyshare camera for all of my Ebay listings but now I use a Nikon Coolpix 2100 because it takes close up pictures. The Kodak takes better looking photos but it won't take a picture of a dime with clarity like the Nikon does.

I have put pictures into Ebay and then deleted them from my computer and they still showed up. You just don't want to upload them to Photobucket (or any other hosting site) and paste them to your auction then delete them from Photobucket because they will disappear from your auction. I had that happen to me a few times.

Tip: if you want to take good pics of small flat things like that, use your flat bed scanner - here's an example of a small gold watch.

Scanners work great for paperwork and other flat things but small items like coins do not show much detail and the picture always ended up small when I tried. The reason I needed to take such small pictures was because I was selling error & variety coins. There are small things about coins that can make them worth a lot of money. If you ever find a raised E underneath the tail feathers of a Morgan Silver Dollar you have a very rare coin. They are still out there to be found because most coin collectors have no idea about "clashed die" errors. This is what a strong E clash looks like and you would need a camera with a close up feature and macro zoom lens to get a good picture.

I don't really need to use the Nikon anymore because I stopped selling coins for awhile. I should go back to the easyshare because it does take better looking photos (more color of something). I don't remember if I had a rechargable battery for it or not though. I bought one for the Nikon several years ago and it has saved me thousands of dollars in batteries. Although it took over 1 month to arrive. I was paying $10 a battery at Wal-Mart until I realized that I could get a charger and rechargable battery online.
