hello all,

just wondering if they make reproduction dial scale circles for the National NC-173 ? research so far has told me "no" but i will ask the experts.

mine are ok and acceptable, i would say 7 out of 10. however, a new set of crisply marked repros would make this beautiful radio cabinet and speaker close to a 9.5 out of 10. restoration came out perfect and it is quite a performer.

thanks for your answers and help.

steve

Years ago when RockSea was still in business, Mike posted a question on Usenet asking if there was an interest in NC-173/NC-183 dial scale repos. I responded with a yes, but apparently there weren't enough requests as Mike later posted that he wouldn't be making them due to lack of interest. There was also a disagreement as to whether the repos should be white or amber. The originals were pearly white, but quickly turned amber with exposure to light.

Every example of the NC-173 and NC-183 that I have encountered recently would benefit from new dial scales.

Both my NC-173 and NC-183D could also use new dial scales but I suspect the cost of reproduction might be prohibitive.

thanks.

sorry to hear there are no repros for these radios. mine would be pristine with a new set. regardless, it still looks surperb.

If someone can send me a good, 300DPI or better scan, I can try tweaking my Postscript dial-scale program to make those scales. I did one for a Philco 620 a few years back and it turned out very nice. Just a few hours work, should be.
