I take a transparent overhead projector sheet and print it in reverse. Most times I can do the whole front panel in 100% size and just lay it on the panel, rub each letter..... voila!..... it transfers a decent image of the ink to the clean front panel. Then I use a clear top coat spray to seal it.

Did you test applying to scrap before committing your project to the material ? It sucks being surprised! Learned the hard way did I.
You *can* get crystal clear and you *can* get good results. Just not from Avery. You will need to order from the 'net. I buy from http://www.onlinelabels.com
I print the whole sheet and apply to the project. Then I place another clear sheet on top for protection.
I'd like to make a set of labels for my Drake 2B front panel which is rusty and should be completely stripped and repainted. That would have to be white lettering on a black panel using my black and white laser printer. Not a home brew rig - sorry. -John
