Hi -

I just tried using Avery Ink Jet Clear Labels ( # 18863) for labeling the front panel of my battery eliminator.

THEY AIN'T CLEAR!

They are translucent but not clear.

Save your $7 plus.

I use Brother P-Touch labels. They are pretty clear, but you can see them in reflected light on the front panel. The gloss doesn't match my paint job.

You can also get them in Black-on-Clear or Black-on-White

I take a transparent overhead projector sheet and print it in reverse.
Most times I can do the whole front panel in 100% size and just lay it on the panel, rub each letter..... voila!..... it transfers a decent image of the ink to the clean front panel.
Then I use a clear top coat spray to seal it.

Did you test applying to scrap before committing your project to the material ?
It sucks being surprised! Learned the hard way did I.

You *can* get crystal clear and you *can* get good results. Just not from Avery.
You will need to order from the 'net. I buy from http://www.onlinelabels.com

I print the whole sheet and apply to the project.
Then I place another clear sheet on top for protection.

How about a coat or two of clear? Worked for me, but I wanted to seal rather than blend.

I'd like to make a set of labels for my Drake 2B front panel which is rusty and should be completely stripped and repainted. That would have to be white lettering on a black panel using my black and white laser printer. Not a home brew rig - sorry.
