Can anyone help with an ID here, and is there is anything exceptional about this model? It's built like a tank, but not labels or model info available. Any information is appreciated.

I answered my own question. just found it on line. It's a GE Model 250, with the following tube set.
Valves / Tubes 5: 1LN5 1LC6 1LH4 1LN5 3Q5GT

Early rechargeable radio seems to be the point of interest. Does anyone know more on this set?

I have one of those myself and I think I have the schematic around somewhere if you want it. If I remember correctly, the rechargeble 2 volt battery needs to be in the radio and working for it to play. The cord was only for charging and the radio only runs off that battery.

Hi,
I have one. Do a search on this forum to find a couple of older posts. I posted photos of what the original wet cell battery looks like.
These are quite heavy with the cast chassis internals. They also made a similar model with shortwave bands.

Yep, the battery had to be in place and charged. Mine will not work with the cord plugged in.
Some have suggested using a NiCd battery pack. I haven't experimented with my set yet as far as a new battery, even though I've had it 20+ years :)
