I've posted this in reference in the Electrical Resto thread, but I thought it might deserve its own post. I picked this up from a friend who was helping a neighbor clean out some old antiques. The case is in very rough shape as are many of the boxes for the tubes, but I've counted over 300 so far and I've only inventoried about 1/4 of them. It also had some cross-ref manuals and VOM instructions. Tons of stuff I've never seen, I'm fairly new to the tube side and I've yet to get a tester to see if any have strength. I'm just throwing this out as a discussion topic, does anyone else have one of these?

From the pictures, looks like many used tubes in recycled boxes. Not necessisarily bad (why would anyone save them??) Good idea to inventory, make sure tube inside is same as label, and test if you can borrow a tube tester. You could have several winners. Many tubes have cross purpose used in TV, radio, and audio gear and have value. Most used exclusively for TV mostly are virtually worthless because there are so many of them and almost no demand.

If you are curious, you can use the tube data lookup on this link to get a general idea of usage for most tubes:

When refilling our tube caddys at the end of the day we would just put new tubes in the existing boxes. This may explain why the tube brands and the boxes don't match. Your caddy was a valuable piece of equipment and was never stocked with used tubes.

Ok, If anyone's kept up I've been busy. Not only do I have a dozen projects to work, My wife is now 8 months pregnant with our first (I have a 10 yr old from previuos) but i finally did a sub-inventory to these tubes. The pic posted is of all the "big tubes" in the box. I've got a spreadsheet with all the manfacures names and numbers (TONS of Westinghouse) but I'll have to upload that tomorrow (after golf) So what I've got here is a ton of Octal tubes I haven't even researched yet. The boxes don't match to anything. And I found some sweet Light Incicators from 74 by Dicalight in this stash. More info later...
