I picked up a huge multi band portable radio at an auction yesterday. The badge on the front of the radio says National Panasonic. A tag from the auction reads RF-5000. There is no other identifying information on the radio. Does anyone know where I can get service and alingment data. The radio sure has great audio.
thanks,
Steve Chambers
------------------
i doubt it would need more than controls cleaned unless someone has been in it with a screwdriver.i have repaired quite a few for other collectors and it was mostly dirty switches and pots.
a few bad solder joints too.
that is the last set i need to complete the series i have here.got up to the rf-4900 now.
if you get tired of it holler.
i doubt you will though once you get it cleaned up.
they perform quite well.
------------------
Thanks for you reply. The long wave band simply picks up part of the broadcast band with lots of heterodyne whistles. The lower end of the broadcast band seems a little weak with some whistling. The shortwave sensitivity is good, same with upper part of the broadcast band. FM is great. I can't figure out the alignment adjustments other than the oscillator.Great audio. Makes my Zenith TO 7000 seem small and weak!
Steve Chambers
------------------
Hi Steve, I've sent you an Ad for your National RF-5000 from the August 1969 Electronics Australia magazine. It includes a small block diagram that might help. I think the service information was in one of the Australian JH service books but I've mislaid mine at present. Perhaps someone else from Australia might have a copy and can scan it for you? I'll try and find mine if I have it however it might take a while. Hope this helps.
Don Black.
------------------
Thanks Don. All the way from Australia, that still amazes me. Love to travel to Australia some day. Yes this will help. If you find the service info let me know. The picture verifys that RF-5000 is the correct model number. Listening to big band/standards station WKHR from Cleveland right now on this radio.
Steve Chambers
------------------
