Last year I bought a Panasonic RF-4900 but it had no FM aerial. Any idea where I could get the appropriate one for this radio?
brianmillson@******
------------------
avro

Any common FM antenna ranging from a simple dipole made from 300 ohm twin-lead to a sophisticated outdoor yagi will work with this radio. I have an RF-4900 which I use often. It actually requires 3 antennas to utilize it's complete coverage. There are connections for a medium wave antenna, a shortwave antenna and an FM antenna.
Dave
------------------
Sorry, my manual does not mention an accessory FM antenna, either supplied or as an available option. Perhaps these sets were marketed differently in the US.
Dave
------------------
Brian-
That looks like an ordinary FM dipole- just about the cheapest antenna around. I've probably got a couple in my garage, but they're hardly worth mailing (to Germany?) since they sell for about $2 new. Antennas nearly identical to the one pictured are common in thrift stores and at garage sales.
Here's a web page that tells how to make your own: http://www.kgnu.org/howtohear/antenna.html This is the simple dipole made from 300 ohm twinlead that Dave mentioned.
-Steve W.
------------------
Fellows, it mentions that the aerial required is 75 ohms, I have a 75 ohm external, which I use on my vintage tube (valve) sets with a 300 ohm Balun. From what you say could I use that on the RF-4900?
Brian
------------------
avro

What I have done with the radio is attach the 75 ohm boosted aerial to a double female coupler to a 75/300 Balun.
At the other end I have attached rubber insulated wire to alligator clips and the alligator clips to twin 75 ohm aerial input.
Should I now solder the alligator clips. It would be my first soldering task :-O.
Sorry, I did not understand the 8 Ball comment-it loses somewhat in the transatlantic translation.
brianmillson@******
------------------
avro
