Can anybody make any recommendations on a shipper? It is too heavy to go greyhound.
I could wait months if that is what it takes. I used to hear about guys that would crisscross the country
picking up items.. I'd like to pay in the $300 to $400 range. Is that unreasonable price?

Plycon is one company I know people use. They are kind of an old-fashioned moving company, slow, but stuff gets where it's supposed to.

The other outfit to try is UShip... They run a website that hooks small shippers up with people moving small amounts of stuff.

If it is too heavy to ship by Greyhound as a single package, you may want to consider pulling the chassis from the cabinet to lighten it up. You could then ship it as two lighter weight packages.

This would also have the added benefit of helping prevent damage to both the cabinet and the chassis. Sometimes the combined weight of the cabinet and chassis do not tolerate the stresses of shipping very well.

plycon is OK, unfortunately they sub the shipping out to local moving companies. Had a MCM couch shipped from California to MA, earlier this year, and I was at the mercy of getting the local guy to deliver it when I was available (took about a week of trying to arrange the delivery)

I posted on Uship for someone to move a console from California to Michigan and found no takers. I think moving the old electronics scares them.

I was under the impression that their weight limit was 100 pounds. Are you saying that this set weighs more than that? If so, the suggestion to remove the chassis and send in two containers should work, and even with two, it should still be cheaper than using any other method to ship.

I had a 37-690 shipped to me in 4 boxes... The two chassis individually in their own boxes, the big speaker in a box, and the cabinet with the tweeters and resonators still mounted in the final box. With packing materials and cardboard, the cabinet came up to 114 lbs. We hoped Greyhound wouldn't notice and the seller tried to drop it off, but Greyhound weighed it and refused it. I used UShip for that one.

There is no way I am going to get the seller to take the radio apart.
It seem to remember 20 years ago there were guys that traveled coast to coast
just picking up stuff like this.. Now that I live in New Hampshire there is not much
near me!

Has the seller actually weighed it on a bathroom scale, or is he just guessing? The four consoles I own each weigh around 50 pounds.
