Do you know the model number of the record player?
Even without the model number, repairing this probably requires something along the lines of the following:
1. Find the label showing which tubes are needed. Tubes are widely available at very low cost (a few dollars each, even for brand new ones).
2. Replace paper capacitors and electrolytic capacitors, and possibly the selenium rectifier (replace it with a diode).
3. Replace the pickup cartridge. Not so easy to find, but a number of people on here can help find sources.
4. Mechanical maintenance, such as replacing the rubber idler wheel with a modern rebuild.
Sounds like a lot of steps, but not that bad overall.
Check the "Resources" section of this website to find sources of many of these replacement parts.
Tom
------------------
