Hello to all:
Currently I am working on a 40 meter single conversion super het using the 'space charge' tubes used in automobile receivers from 1959 to 1962. I have been able to achieve about 5 microvolt sensitivity with a single RF amp and a pentagrid converter. I do use a Collins mechanical filter for good IF selectivity. I am powering the receiver with a 12 volt, 5 Amphour gel cel, which is mounted internally on the unit's chassis. I am wondering if anyone ELSE has ever made a receiver using 'space charge' techniques?
Jerry
------------------

Bill..
Those are some outstanding projects!
Very nice builds and your cabinets are incredible...
I guess I need to build a Regen... but I don't have any low voltage tubes...

------------------
Bow

Jerry...
For many years, there has been interest and homebrew activity utilizing space charge tubes and other tubes applicable to receiver circuits with the tube plates having low voltage applied during operation.
Much of this activity, of course, has been among those who like homebrewing tube gear and operating QRP within within the amateur radio community.
In addition to Bill's fine constructions, you may want to consider the following:
Jeff Duntemann has compiled a listing of articles for information and projects using space charge tubes...If you follow the link below you will see the list and also a brief description of the articles (some with hyper-links):
www.duntemann.com/12vtubes/12vtubesindex.htm
<Thanks, Jeff>
Bruce
WC5CW
------------------
Bruce:
That is WHERE I got the idea in the first place to make a battery powered, vacuum tube portable receiver! I have corresponded with Jeff many months ago, and he has asked me to send him at least a schematic on my receiver when I get it complete, if not a short story on it. I anticipate completing the receiver in time for Field Day.
------------------
Jerry...
Very good...Forty meters is a good band for "acid test": Lots of activity AND lots of QRM(!)...I hope you get it up-and-running to your satisfaction by FD...And, perhaps you will share with us, also here at ARF, additional information about your project, as applicable.
GL es 73,
Bruce
WC5CW
------------------
I'm surprised it took me this long to post something in the new section. Anyways...

Made, no. Making, yes. A while back, I ordered some space charge tubes in hopes of constructing various receivers. I haven't had time to build anything yet but I will make a small one tube and transitor hybrid super-het quite soon. Might sub in a space charge "power" tetrode for that transistor though... Continue with any updates, I can't wait until the schematic is released.
73's
------------------
