Weather was fine right up until the auction at the end when some thunder moved through. Sold a lot, bought a little less, had a GREAT time Very Happy . Thanks especially to Mike K., Al, Uri, Peter and all the other wonderful DVHRC folks! I will have a full report soon.

For now see 14 pics in the Temporary folder. Yes, you can buy a spinning wheel or a giant bulb too! My table (shown near the end of the meet) is the one with the GE Locomotive TV-

Thanks for the pictures John. Enjoyed our chats and meeting other forum members Stan, Marty, Peter and some others(only have an 8K memory these days Embarassed ) The indoor flea mkt there is huge. I got some great homemade sausage at the Heagy German meat mkt there. One dealer(only got his first name,Louis) had a great radio store there with a bench and a wonderful collection old old radios for sale. I think next time I'll go down on Friday and camp out in the van.

Most German pronunciations have been Americanized, for better or worse, over the years. The pronunciation of "Steen" for Stein (Stine) is one of the most common. Many people have not had the advantage of learning a European, or other language, with the vowel pronunciations used. It really hasn't been that useful in the recent past in our Great Country, unless one were to go on to advanced studies.
I would pronounce it "Kootztown". No "D" in the pronunciation, but dialects vary.
No insults, or judgements intended.

So noted, and edited thusly. But I swear sometimes I almost hear a D sound in it, and the O is like a stone falling in a pond.

The pronunciation I've always used is the Kutz is like 'could' but change the 'ld' to a 't'. Does not rhyme with 'boots'. Definately not so it sounds like 'cuts'.

BTW, us Pennsylvania Dutchmen can tell when someones not from the area when they pronounce 'Lancaster' like Burt Lancaster - its Lang-kester.

I won't get into Germansville, Pen Argyl or New Tripoli, except to say they're not pronounced as you would think. I'll get off my dialect soapbox now. Smile

I had a great time as well. Sold about 90% of what I brought. Spent about $20 in the auction. Got lucky with a brand-new American Beauty soldering iron in a $1 box lot.

Didn't buy any radios, but drooled over the Sparton sled on the table next to mine.

P.S.

I forgot to ask, what was the price range on most of the consoles and chairsides there?
PA would be quite a drive from Cinci, but would be worth going next year (assuing its a yearly convention) if the prices are good.

Did they have any of the very art deco Majestic tabletops? (such as the Duo-Moderne)? Those are the only tabletops I really like.

Prices there are very good for most things (please note what I paid for everything). HOWEVER, I would probably NOT come a thousand miles looking for "chairsides and very art Deco Majestics". This swap has nice and rare things, but it is also very casual. And out of literally thousands of items I saw perhaps four chairsides and not a single hyper-Deco Majestic. In dozens of swaps I have seen a total of maybe two of these. I always notice Majestics because I used to collect them before I realized they weren't intended to ever be repaired.

Kutztown is about just us folks, down home collecting. If you'd enjoy a really competitive atmosphere all about more fancy stuff an AWA event might be your cup of tea.

Hagstar, sounds like the place is pretty worthwhile to to to then. Reasonable prices, nice people, and a fun event.

By then, I won't have any room to put any more consoles though, lol!

None of the stuff I have now is ultra-fancy. I'd just like one super art-deco piece to stand out in the collection.

I'm trying to find fellow collectors in the Cinci, OH area - I am always trying to pick up new knowledge, and esp. how to fix radios. I'd really like to fix the 7-S-557 I have.

According to the locals the "u" is pronounced like the "u" in "put" If you pronounce the "u" like the "u" in "cut" then it becomes the Pa German word for what you do when you "eat yourself sick"

Yep glad I didn't go, with those consoles just waiting to be purchased and loaded into my pickup I could only imagine what my wife would say with some more consoles, lol.

She'd probably say, "Hope you like sleeping in the garage". (Or worse!)
