I'm currently uploading a pack of Richard Diamond, Private Detective, a great show which resurrected Dick Powell's career. Some have minor tape squeal flaws, but they're about as close to original source as ones' going to get on this series. Link to follow when it finishes.

Cliff, I want to thank you again for posting all these wonderful downloads. I have never been big into OTR but I think I'm coming around. It's wonderful listening to Godfrey while I am on the computer. He is much different from the TV show I remember as a kid - hipper and more spontaneous. It would be nice if you could post the dates shows were originally broadcast.

Just to let you know, I don't respond much to these messages, but I indeed love to listen to OTR -- and have downloaded several from the usenet site.

I guess the problem I have is that I'm already loaded up with old shows that I have yet to listen to, so it's hard to "keep filling the box before it's emptied out." However I indeed enjoy them -- I listen frequently using my AMT-3000 and an Atwater Kent 60, while working in the shop.

Uffda, I do post the dates, both in the filename and in the id3 tag. For example 461113, is November 13, 1946. The Year Month Day format is the standard way of labeling OTR.

One of the Nov. 1946 Godfrey's mentions Father's Day. I don't know if Father's Day was on a different date back then, but that's the date that was on the reel.

Sigh, that Arthur Godfrey reel was mislabeled, now I'm going to have to rename those 4 files.

First of the new files,

Some fresh transfers from ET - includes some rare & obscure stuff - never before released audition recording, an informal recording session, and a big band remote (rare artist). I couldn't do much with the sound on the remote, the disc was VERY worn.

This is a fascinating look into wartime radio. The Allies had their AFRS and related overseas service - the Germans also had something comparable. This is a rare example of the German Overseas Service, which was beamed to North America in English. It had its mix of news - some accurate and some fantasy, and full-fledged propaganda. On D-Day, the news was surprisingly accurate, though. U.S. stations used it as a source while the story developed.

"Axis Sally", I forget her real name, which was the German version of Tokyo Rose. From July 27, 1944, the Allies were about to irretrievably break the German position in France, and the Eastern front was in shambles. Dr. Goebbels makes a speech and puts on some damage control. Axis Sally spins the tunes and does some news.

This came from a multi-generational cassette - I improved it all I could, but the quality isn't superb. Included for historical value.

Yea, I fixed the link.

On the next two, these are rare & obscure programs I transferred from cassettes. They are NOT my dubs, all I did was fix the speed, volume, properly equalize them, and restore them. Quality ranges. I forget which is which, but one is early 30s stuff, the other is 40s stuff mostly.

EDIT: A's the early one. Some scarce shows with Dick Powell and Paul Whiteman.

Quality isn't great, but much better than when I found them. Dick Powell was sounding like Barry White in the raw transfer, and the volume was very low.

I think my next posting project will be I Love A Mystery, considered the greatest adventure serial of all time.

I don't have all the episodes, but I have a lot in the best sound I could find, from the best sources possible.

me in the boat. Those America Firsters gave me
shivers they are so relevant. And Godfrey- I just
remembered him from TV. No idea he was hep.
