I just redid the electrolytics and fired it up , everything seems to be working well or close to it except there is no focus , sams photofact says to move the ion trap to adjust the focus , well this really doesn't do much but make the brigtness go away .... Anyone have any suggestions on whwere to go from here ?<BR>Would recapping the set improve this ?<BR>i did try swaping some tubes but it made no difference .<P>Is it a yoke problem ?<P>Thanks to all<P>Mike<P>------------------<BR>

If the focus coil has continuity and it has voltage on either side of it, either it is physically in the wrong location or it is unable to squeeze the flow of electrons through its center point. That is the gun in the crt may not be able to offer a controled flow of electrons. First try rotating the ion trap--what was rear becomes front--then rotate it to best brightness. Next best bet is a real close look at the picture tube itself...it may be gassy. CRAIG<P>------------------<BR>

Well it doesn't have a focus coil , i think it is what is called electrostatic focus , so it might be the crt ? too bad it read really good on my checked and shows no signs of shorts , perhaps the voltage going to it is off ?<BR>i'll read the voltage on the pins of the crt.<P>Mike<P>------------------<BR>

Hi Mike<P> What is the picture tube number? Some have a focus electrode where changing voltage adjusts focus. You may be able to vary voltage? Some TV's had different points to pick off focus voltage.<P>------------------<BR>Norm

The crt is 9QP4A <P>------------------<BR>

9QP4 in the Sylvania data book has typical focus electrode volts of 0-400. Max range -110 to +550 volts. Can you adjust this voltage? 9QP4 uses base wiring 12AD.<P>------------------<BR>Norm

I can't remember if there is a focus adjustment on these sets. It might use a wire with several pins you can use to get the best focus.<P>This set only takes about $5 in caps and an hour of time to recap so it might be worthwhile to try.<P><BR>Eric<BR><P>------------------<BR>

I will try recapping the entire thing , as far as voltage goes i haven't had time yet to check but i don't even know what pin would be the focus voltage<P>mike<P>------------------<BR>

Mike, I ve been looking for my schematic but<BR>because I am in the process of moving I have been unable to find it.<P>I have the Hotpoint version 9S102 with a rejuvenated tube. It has an excellent picture for now and the performance is good considering how few parts they used in these sets compared to say the RCA 8" of the same period. <P><BR>Eric<P><P>------------------<BR>

If you turn contrast all the way down and brightness to where you can just see an image its pretty much in focus ( very dim picture ) now if you turn up contrast or brightness it will get blury , checked voltages , the 250 volt pins are 280 or 290 and the 35 volt pin is about 50 volts , pin 1 shows no voltage on the schematic , pin 2 is ground , and the 5000 volt pin i can't check . <BR>I still have not recapped the set ( just electrolytics ) .<P><P>------------------<BR>

Hi Mike, wish I could see it. <P>I haven't really had any CRTs that checked good for emissions that wouldn't make a good picture so I don't think it's the tube, still it could be some weird internal problem.<P>I have another set with a rebuilt (long ago) tube that checks good but doesn't have a picture half as good as the one with the rejuved tube. <P>Perhaps you have a high voltage problem, have you tried swapping the 1V2? <P><P>------------------<BR>
