Actually, and obviously, I'm a newbie too. Is there a good link to a simple explanation of the basics of OTR. How were transcriptions made? How were they used? Why were they necessary (or at least useful)?
I have immensely enjoyed listening to OTR in my car - mostly Fibber McGee and Molly and Dimension X. Of course, I plan to move into other series as my tastes lead. It's great!
Another set of questions: why is the applause so loud in comparison to the program material? Why didn't the original recording engineers at least manually turn the levels down when applause started? For some reason is it hard to correct this in making modern copies? And for that matter, why don't car stereos have a built in compression option? To hear dialog I have to turn the volume way up, and then the applause is deafening.
