The getter on the 5Y3GT is hidden behind the base so it looks as if it doesnt have one.
I think Don hit it right on the head, it is most likley bad filter capacitors. How long does it take for the transformer to get warm?

Sounds to me like the 5y3 may have shorted.

well after some digging and some constructive group brain storming we felt it would be worth trying a 5u4 in the socket just to see what happened. not good instant purple glow arcing from heater to plates. I've checked wiring to schematic and checked the capacitor leads for shorting and wrapped them in electric tape.

WE HAVE PROGRESS. found the short a old paper capacitors lead was too long hitting against a controls case we have sound now. A BUZZ:D when i mess with the volume you hear popping, so i know there's amplification. still no tuner and no hv. but i do hear that tv noise that only us little wipper snappers can hear. gonna check my 5u4 replace it with the one from my admiral. have a feeling i fried it when i did the 5y3 sub thing.

Sounds like more shorts. Have you re-capped set?
Check for physical shorts. Wiring is critical.
Must be very neat, and, in some circuits, important on lead dress, as well.

not completely i have just a few caps left in the audio section. im checking for shorts as we speak. i have moved some wires but they wernt far and most moves were necessary for replacement of filters.

If you show some good quality pictures of your wiring we might be able to help you more...
