I think that John Sakas puts this one up as more advertisement of his other radios for sale than actually expecting a buyer for this particular radio. John Sakas is.... an Honest Catalin Guy. Totally unlike you know who.

Nice radios. The listing text on both elaborates about them not having been sanded, glued, filled, polished, buffed, licked, or otherwise.
I came into the ARF just about the time there was a surfacing of unhappy victims by "he who shall go unamed" for selling radios with shoddy repairs, and from what I understand had sold them as unrepaired catalin originals.
So how was it possible for this same dirtbag to successfully sue one of his victims for damage to his reputation, when in reality it was a self inflicted wound? with many examples in circulation that could be used to validate the defendant's case?
Perhaps I came late to the party, and that's why it seems some pieces are missing (pun intended).
Can you folks enlighten me as to how Sheldon had to bear this alone?
Did the other victims just stand by and watch as the wordsmith POS attorney (in my humble opinion) working for "he who shall go unamed" filet him out?
Go ahead, kick me in the butt if I'm out of line. It's an honest question that I think some members might know the answer to. Although I'm certain there are others here who would like to know the story. |

Much of the Turner vs. Speyer lawsuit was hashed over in this thread:
http://antiqueradios.com/forum ... 18187&
Probably the most brief explanation is that while some of what Speyer said about Turner was found to be true, other statements were found to be false and defamatory. I personally don't know anything about the specific details of the case beyond excerpts I posted in the above thread from the court's summary judgment opinion issued by the court prior to the verdict. I'm sure there is interesting reading in the case files for anyone who is able to visit the Ohio Northern District federal court in person.

Bob, Thank You. An excellent read.
I did not read that thread before now. And your detailed accounts and interpretation of the case made for an easy understanding of what had been publicly disclosed.
In spite of what might be considered vindication for the plaintiff, he left such a long greasy skid mark that the aroma will carry on to future generations drawn to those little plastic radios.
Regards, Jeff |

As expected one sold, and - as expected too - to "who shall go unnamed". I guess we'll see it soon again, but we may have to pay twice more. The other expectedly didn't sell, but the whole world now knows, who to write for a beautiful red Emerson AU-190. What about a blue one?

this time with reserve though. |

Nice looking radio! Way out of my price range, though. Unless I stumble across one at a yard or estate sale I'm not likely to ever own a catalin. I'm more of a boatanchor kinda guy anyway. _________________ Rick KØVJ |
