I recently bought a Tek 545 Scope and I have 3 things I need to ask:
1) do I need to test the resistors and recap the whole machine?
2) what plug-ins do I need?/ can I use with the machine? and
3) since the tek 570 is almost nonexistent how can I make the meter run Transconductance curves?

1) I'd certainly check all the E-caps and probably replace them if the 545 has been dormant for a long time. Don't worry about resistors unless you find that it won't pass a calibration check.

2) The 545 will work with any letter- or 1-series plug-in. The CA was the most-popular dual-trace plug-in while the L is a great single-trace unit. A 1A2 is another good and newer dual-trace plug-in.

3) I don't understand this question at all.

You can use the scope (or any scope) as the display for a curve tracer, but it takes extra equipment. See pages 17 to 19 of my test-gear book for a couple of possibilities.

Carl,

Could you tell me which issue ER has the curve tracer article please? I guess with a 575 you have to design an amp for the step voltage since stock it's limited to 0.2V/step? Also the stock collector supply is limited to 200V. What are the voltage and current limits with the Mod 122C?

Thanks,

ERs are stacked up here but I don't recall which one had that article.

The 122C goes to 400V, and 10V worth of steps.
