New in box, although the box is in poor shape. Box has been repaired since this picture was taken. This is the top of the line stereo decoder made to convert monophonic TV audio to stereo. Has a built-in 12-watt amp, dbx noise reduction and an auxiliary input. Also has volume, balance, bass and treble controls.
When it was introduced in 1986, the list price was $200. I'd like $20+ 11 pounds shipping from Naples, FL.

Perhaps a silly question: Would this also work for straight FM? (I.E., mono tuner)

No, I'm afraid not.
Television stereo is an entirely different animal. Similar principle, but the subcarriers are at different frequencies and bandwidths.

I once hoped i could use a FM stereo decoder to receive TV stereo. :(

I never thought of this, but at the very least it would make a nice little amplifier.

Ideal, I guess, for use in an old combo TV from the 50s-60s, or any big old console with dual speakers.

That would be a perfect use, and really make such a TV "sing"!
