Hi, I am new to Antique Radios and appreciate being a part of this interesting group. My question is: How do I make sure my parents Grundig SO 190 U (bought new in 1961) is properly grounded; and do I need to install a three prong power cord, and if so, how? It is the 8 Tube 55watt model. Thanks.
Joe

The original 1961 configuration was a two-prong lead.
When the console is "buttoned up" there is no major electrical hazard.

Others may have... other opinions... :)

12-page service manual attached.

It was designed to operate safely with a two prong plug, and this is the way it should be used. However, at this point in time, many of the parts inside this console have degraded to the point where it will no longer perform at anywhere near its original specifications. And running it this way does expose the potential for failures of key components such as transformers, which (though very rare) could make the unit unsafe. Any Grundig this old should be gone over and fully overhauled, if the intention is to use it on a regular basis.

Joe, where are you located ? We can find a servicer in your area perhaps. Those units, like any vintage radio and phono, need a lot of things done to make them work well and safely. Capacitors need to be changed mainly, but also tubes checked and the pins cleaned (and sockets) as well as the band switches and lots of stuff in the phono that ages (lube and rubber mainly).
