Hey there! I just found a Stromberg Carlson cabinet radio from my local thrift store. I am having a hard time identifying the model number? Does anyone have any idea? Thank you so much!

Have you looked at the chassis? Should be some numbers. |

there is a phonograph and a radio, here are both. Now that I am looking at it, could that say model 1120?

It does look like one of the Stromberg-Carlson 1120-PL variants. Go to RadioMuseum.org, and in the Simple search box type Stromberg 1120. You'll get a list of 5 known variants, 2 of which have pictures. I believe the ones like PLW and PLM are color variants (walnut, mahogany). P typically means phonograph, so 4 of the variants seem to have had phonographs. Not sure what the L means. |

That is a wonderful amp, with push-pull 6V6 output, I think. It is worth restoring. It has the rectifier mounted on a swiveling socket. That chassis was sometimes mounted on its side. I got stuck with the Plain Jane version, but finally sold it to a guy that wanted a desk. So it goes. It is mono, not up to the expectations of the guys wanting big stereos that came along 10 years later. So you would not be destroying a priceless relic if you installed a high-end turntable in place of that old groove cutter. |
