Hi all,
I'm still new to his. I restored a Fada 740 that has poor reception. I did all the alignments with a signal generator but reception is poor. However if I place my hand near the loop antenna the reception improves dramatically. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Mike

Looks like it's designed for an external antenna in addition to the air loop. I would first try maybe 10 feet of wire at the antenna connection. Also spec the antenna coils with your meter to make sure they are continuous.

Sometimes an error is made adjusting the antenna trimmer. Tune the radio to an upper weak station and adjust the antenna trimmer for best reception. (Large Gangs)

This would normally be done using a station around 1400 KC.

Also, it is no disgrace to go back over the whole alignment again, sometimes it takes several times. Read the instructions carefully.
Check the antenna loop for poor connections.
Check voltages. Maybe a failing component like a bad resistor or leaky cap, even a new one, cold solder joints, etc.

The set having its sensitivity improved when subjected to body capacitance seems to indicate that the loop antenna is not optimally adjusted to the chassis. Possibly reversed antenna connections between the chassis and the loop board?

Have the tubes been checked for emission?

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions. I'll make use of all them and see how things go.

Hi all! I made that classic newbie mistake - assuming the RF generator was producing the correct frequency signal. Once I connected to a frequency meter that was not the case. Now everything is in tune and great reception. Currently doing a 5 hour stress test. Thanks!

Congrats and thanks for the feedback. I had a feeling it was something simple.
Enjoy some Xmas tunes on the Fada.

As an aside, one can also use a digital radio to check the frequency of their generator. If IF is 455, I set the digital radio to 910---I adjust sig gen until I hear the tone at 910
