It looked to me like "Capenart". You know, with the broken "h".

We may see it again shortly.

Nice looking radio though. Young Leonard was listening to a Hallicrafters.

Maybe. It is an International 88P66NL. The top of the lid definitely says "Capehart". And it was known as being a Farnsworth. But it COULD have been manufactured by Hallicrafters since it is similar to the TW2000.

You are most welcome. While watching the show I saw the radio in the background and said to myself "Bet that will come up on ARF". So I grabbed my cell phone and got ready for the close up. Not bad for a cell phone shot of a TV screen.
And I won the bet with myself.

For extra credit, can you tell what radio young Leonard Hofstadter was listening to at the end of the show?

I posted about the same radio earlier, in this thread:

I love Shortwave radios. I've been an avid listener since 1971 when I was 14 years old. First station picked up was HCJB from Quito Equador South America. I was listening to the station on a walkie talkie when I turned the ferrite core of a coil. I saw the CAPEHART radio on Young Sheldon last night and I was overjoyed. I currently have a HALLICRAFTERS TW-2000 receiver which is basically the same unit other than some cosmetic differences. It was great watching this show as a followup of the Series finale of Big Bang Theory as Sheldon and Amy won the Nobel Prize in Sweden....and then minutes later Young Sheldon was getting ready to listen to the live broadcast of the Nobel Prize via Shortwave at 5 am. The writers of these two shows are to be commended. Thank you very much! Mitchell N from Hamilton Ontario CANADA.

Ok, I am two years late but I just bumped into this thread again while looking for comments on Hallicrafters portables. You never posted the correct answer or a picture which may explain why no one, me included, hazarded a guess at the time. To me it looks like an S-38D, possibly modified by the props department.

If anyone cares after all this time....

I don't know why there is an effort to conceal the identity of, or substantially alter the appearance of an old obscure radio or a maker that is defunct. They don't do that to say, old cars in the movies do they? Go around and alter the classic Fords and Chevys, call them Nords and Shiftys? These are not low dollar or cheap productions and they can afford to have a decent prop house supply something besides spray painted junk, I would think. Why go to the effort to paste together something from parts that looks plausible to a dummy, when intact real stuff is just as easy to get with no hassle? Hallicrafters estate gonna sue for royalties?

They are not necessarily concealing the identity although that could happen if a prop prominently displays the name of a major sponsor's competitor.

In this case I am not sure how much the radio may have been modified (if it is indeed an S-38D). I do not see the seam where the front panel meets the case but the resolution could be too low to show it. I don't see the slide switches but again maybe they are just not apparent. The bezel around the slide rule dial is black however and the case does not seem to be the right color. This may be an example of another reason why props are modified. The set designers are eligible to win major industry awards and designers tend to be very particular. The radio could have been modified because the set designer generally liked it but wasn't happy with some aspects of its appearance. It could even have been old and beat up and the designer wanted it "freshened". Who knows, all we can be sure of is that Hollywood does not serve the radio collector's community!

Not sure this fits into the discussion, but here is an enhanced picture of young Leonard's radio.
