Looks great Jon. From what I've learned the V has an RC coupled amp while the VI is xfmr coupled. I think the V amp is very similar to the RCA MI-4288 less the paralleled quad of 6L6's.

Thanks
Jon Don't forget Jon that under all those nice chrome cans on top of the radio chassis are some additional capacitors that have to be replaced. John k9uwa

Great restoration Jon and your photos are beautiful and rich in detail. I once had a Jensen tweeter from a Zenith 12A-58 and after looking at the schematics I plugged it into the MP 5 tweeter plug on my Jensen 18 and voila the tweeter sounded great. Its my belief it was the same basic tweeter sold optionally with the MP 5 and the Zenith. I don't know what was used on the MP 6.

Thanks for the update Jon! Very nice to see your work! Bruce, as far as I know, the 12A58 tweeter part number 49-125 was speaker manufacturer code "AB" which was Operadio/Dukane. Zenith could of had some made by Jensen, but it would have code "X" in the part number. It is really cool it works in your MP 5 -Steve

Do you know if it will be necessary to open all chrome covers above the chassis? Looking from the underside I see at least two cans that each have two wax capacitors within. I would imagine there are more. My original game plan was to remove all top end covers for analysis and detailing.
Thanks
Jon Bunch in the IF can side and some in the RF side so yes I think so from memory. I found one picture I took of my chassis with all the covers off on the IF side lots of new parts in there. And Pretty sure there are some bypass caps on the RF side. besides a good excuse to properly clean and polish all of the cans and get to all the places in the chassis as well. John k9uwa

Great job on the MPVI chassis Jon - really neat work, and I am sure it will work well for you when completed. I restored an MPVI chassis a couple of years ago and it is still going strong (though the cabinet remains unrestored). I decided to take a more 'sympathetic' approach to the under-chassis aesthetics, but getting a good photo of an 'unmolested' chassis to work from was difficult - I wish I had the great 'before' photos in your posts at that time! Anyone interested in that restoration can view articles on it here: https://sparcradio.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/McMurdo-Silver-Article-Part-1.pdf and here: https://sparcradio.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/McMurdo-Silver-Masterpiece-Part-2-with-Appendices-Rev-1.pdf. Part1 provides background on acquiring the radio (and an MPV), and Part 2 provides details of the restoration, as well as summary of the range of MP receivers and a compilation of some of the info I collected on its alignment etc. As noted in Part 2, there is still some work to do on the chassis, and I am sure I will get to it one day, as well as the cabinet. Looking forward to more posts on this radio. Gerry

Are you going to keep all of the old caps?

Maybe just me personal opinion on this but Two things I did on my MP6. First I decided I am only taking those chrome cans off ONCE so all the capacitors including the mica caps and some or maybe all of the resistors that were inside those cans were replaced. Second part it is a very nice time to carefully do a very through clean polish and wax job on all of the chassis and the can covers. Just be very careful around all the itty bitty wires from all the coils inside those cans.
