Oh, unknown Philco employee, you did it again. You slapped a sticker on the bottom of this Philco 46-420 "Hippo" that reads "Code 121." The only schematic I can find is also for the 121. Both indicate the audio output tube is a 50L6. Inside I find the Bakelite socket has been removed and a mini socket riveted inside it to hold a 50B5 mini tube. That apparently is a Code 125. (Not even radiomuseum.com have that in its database.)

I've seen this before in post-war Philcos and even an Emerson or two. Manufacturers who ran out of pre-war stock and upgraded to more modern parts, like these mini tubes. I even wrote an article about this for my company: https://ez.analog.com/b/engineering-min ... technology

Does ANYONE have the schematic of the 46-420 but Code 125? That 50B5 is running damn hot, I'm wondering if there's anything I can do about that...

Small AA5 audio outputs and rectifiers run damn hot, fact of life.

Circuitry likely same for either tube.

Max temp for a 50B5/50C5 is 220*C or 428*F.
