The local charity thrift store gets high quality donations and does a rocking good business with lots of turn-over. Somebody has donated three radios and they are for sale for $30 - 35 Canadian, about $20 -25 US.
They are a Zenith G723 or 24 AM/FM ($25) A green Emerson portable with intact black handle, model 646 or 652. ($20), An Addison 5 Woody (only looks like the Catalin version) ($20).
I can't buy 2, only one. It appears to be a donation to charity, so a tax deduction, and I need another radio. Which one?

Addison, no crackable plastic and wood looks better. Other two are more common.

The Addison, without doubt.
In fact, expect it to be gone when you get back, in which case, get the Zenith of the other 2.

Agree that the Addison is far more desirable than either of the other two. In fact I wouldn't touch the other two if the Addison happens to already be sold.

It is also in the roughest condition. Maybe I can pop a fiberglass mold off of the cabinet? Just kidding. It is a trick question, because the Addison is the ONLY AA5, the Zenith is a 7-tube FM, the Emerson is a 4 or 5 tube portable. You guys are all correct.

I paid a bit more and burned up some gas, all for a good cause - mine. It has knobs and a dial glass, and will keep the red rug behind the grill. Looks good on this red table. I'll make the dial sit straight with new clips to hold it. The plywood back, attached with tape, is actually a good idea, because the cracked power cord was kept away from people, and the dreaded white blanket was been kept out of sight and mind under the chassis. And it was all hidden from me, too, wrapped in shrink wrap. I have no problem with that, I like a surprise and had a hunch, nothing missing or out of place. Plus, a working dial cord. Winter project.

That's a beauty! Glad you snagged it! I think the Catalin version is called The Courthouse?

Right, this is the wooden 'courthouse' that will outlive the plastic ones. It is solid walnut plank, not plywood.

OMG you took the back off an asbestos radio! Have you contacted someone about paying ahead of time for your final expenses, yet?? Why, that is worse than eating Plutonium, don't ya know?

Shh, don't let the wives know all those smelly parts back there are also toxic. Update: after five days of Addison ownership, I have passed the A5 on to Gary, where it will enhance his modest Addison collection. Where it will rest between not just one but two Sparton Bluebirds, the 2nd one an ultra rare Canadian model with a power transformer! Found in a local store. Some people are just born lucky, I guess. In exchange, I get my money back plus a transformer to power a GE farm radio, thanks, Gary. Heading home, stopped at a thrift store and found that adapter, 6 RCA cord sockets for $2. A good day.
