I have the AM only version. It's a very sensitive radio and great for DX. You will probably have to replace the mica caps in the IF transformers.

Well, it turns out you were right on the money.
Powered up, and the set seems to have a terminal case of silver mica disease.
I understand this is not an easy fix if you are a skilled tech, which I am not, nor a cheap fix to have it sent out.
I rolled the dice on this one.
Oh, well...

Agreed!
This is a nice khaki colored set, designed for the tropics!
I noticed when I fiddled with the band switch, I was able to get a station.
Sprayed some Radio Shack non residue contact cleaner into it, and worked the switch. Will wait a while and see if there is any improvement.
