If my atwater power supply has a paint mark of 40 on it does that mean its a model 40?

I don't know about a "paint mark" but there should be a metal ID tag.

Usually there will be a metal name plate with the model and s/n located on the left hand side of the chassis. It may have 90 years of dirt and grime on it.
