A friend ran across this strange set at a garage sale in the San Francisco Bay Area. On checking it out, I noticed that the mirrored pieces seem to be attached to sheets, and there are two beveled mirrored pieces on the top of the set that had to be made just for this set. This made me wonder...were there kits being manufactured in the early 1940s to turn your set into a juke box type radio? On the other hand, this could have been a one-off, made by a glass shop to show off their prowess. I've looked online, but have found nothing ike it. Does anyone have a good guess about this one? Thanks.

Definitely a custom job. I almost like it. Looks well done. I once had an Admiral tabletop radio that was poorly redone in plain silver mirrored glass pieces on sheets.

It's a custom job. Maybe only one done or maybe a few done, who knows. The mirrors all look to be in good condition and none of the panes are missing which suggests to me that it was more of a recent customization, probably within the past 30 years. I also see, what looks to be, dried overflow of glue along the edge of some of the rows of mirrors and chrome trim. It's very attractive and nicely done but I don't think it's anything historically significant.

I think it's pretty cool. Those Philcos really don't do much for me in stock configuration, anyway. It looks to have been well done. The small mirror squares remind me of a Seeburg trashcan jukebox. Chroming that escutcheon would complete the look, IMHO.
