I have a large B&W coil whose (cellulose?) supports have crumbled; and I have seen a few mentions online (and some old ones from ARF) about using strips of CD case plastic with Duco cement to build air coil supports.

Has anyone done this, and if so, tips appreciated!

The least expensive readily available coil form material I know of, is PVC pipe. I used a short length for a regen receiver I built.

Yes, I have repaired AIR coils using that method. The tricky part is cutting the CD case into strips. The material is very brittle. Remove one of the original strips at a time. I use a small binder clip to hold the new strip in place. Make sure that you don't disrupt the coil wire spacing. Flow the Duco and wait till it is complexly dry before moving on to the next strip.

If the old strips are still holding the wire in place, just put the new ones near the old ones. Then remove the old ones after the glue has set.

Thanks gents.
This is a combo coil and band switch unit made by BW so pvc is out.
the strips were quite big and all have completely shattered. I have to order the Duco cement amd will begin making some kind of jig to position the coil for applying the forms.
cheers

I would use Q-dope or plastic model cement (from a tube) rather than Duco cellulose cement. CD cases are styrene, so Q-dope or plastic model cement should solvent-weld to the CD case plastic strip.
