I was lying on the basement floor working on the clothes dryer which quit blowing except when it made a terrible rumbling noise. The plastic squirrel cage blower wheel was loose and turned on the motor shaft, the wheel hub was rounded out so it did not grip the motor shaft. Time to replace the blower wheel, which is kept on the shaft by a snap ring.
Didn't i get snap ring pliers some years ago? I wonder where they are? I'll just pry it off with screwdrivers.
I wonder where the snap ring will fly to when it pops off?

I lined the inside of the blower wheel with a dryer sheet and set a small (maybe 1" x 1" x 2") horseshoe magnet in the bottom of the wheel. Pry the ring this way and that, wedge it, twist it, ping!, it is gone.
Look, there it is on the magnet.
Even the counter woman at the appliance parts store thought the catcher magnet was a good tip.

Dryer all fixed and purring like a kitten.

That is a great idea! If parts are small enough, I use a plastic bag. Denis

Now you've done it. That snap ring was supposed to go to that corner of the universe where all escaped small parts are supposed to go. Preventing that from happening may have unforeseen consequences.

Probably the magnetic pole reversal.
