Are local ace hardware has a yearly special on led light bulbs.99 cents for four bulbs.they are the max lite brand, and subsidized by are local electric coop. each bulb has a 22uf to 68uf 160-250 volt cap in it. lower wattage also has a .47 poly cap in it. that's cheap caps unless you are buying in large amounts isn't it?i have recapped 3 aa5s using these caps and they work well. they must be good as the bulbs are rated for like the rest of my life, but i have had six burn out last this last year but it wasn't the caps ............snuffy

You are destroying a bulb to save an insignificant amount of money. They are probably the cheapest, crappiest capacitors going because I have never had an LED bulb last even close to it's expected lifespan.

Amazon ( my favorite stop ) has some cheap Chinese Cap kits for sale for under $ 20.00. I brought one and used them in a couple of radios and they work OK. I test them before I put them in though Tom

Forget cheap. I buy all my caps from Just Radios. They have every cap and resistor you need. I have all my caps in plastic drawers and labeled. I keep on hand about 20 caps for each of all the common values along with electrolytics. I’ll take an inventory every now and then and place an order. I like dealing with them. Nice people.

Insignificant money? 4 electrolytics for $1. And locally available too! Supports local tax base, schools, etc. when you buy locally. Destroy a bulb? Sound more like a parts bulb.

I have done a failure analysis of a few LED bulbs. It is usually the cap that shorted, taking out a resistor. In most cases the LED string is fine; just the support electronics that failed. Why would you want to "save" a cheap cap that is prone to failure if you used it somewhere else? Besides, if you do get it out without damaging it, you are stuck with a part that has very short leads to work with. So you solder on an extension and created another potential point of failure.... No Thanks, I'll buy my caps new from a reputable source.

I'd rather pay just a little more if necessary and get brand new, quality brands like Nichicon or Panasonic which are quite affordable if ordered in quantities from places like DigiKey or Mouser.
I've never had an LED light bulb last anywhere near what they say on the package. If you can get a year in daily use several hours a day, then that's good, if you can get much more than a year you must not be using it for enough hours to cause it to fail.
