Recently I had a VERY dirty tuning cap to clean. Fifty years of cigarette smoke, grime and corrosion made it a mess. I have noted with interest many who use an ultrasonic cleaner for these items. I don't have one, but one day it came to me that the Dr. Scholl foot spa uses low frequency sound/vibration. My wife has one of those. I lined it with a plastic bag to keep the nasty stuff in and away from the plastic. I used dish soap and warm water inside the bag, and I also filled the spa outside the bag to better transfer the vibration. I let it run a half hour. The result was a nicely cleaned capacitor (the water inside the bag was a dark amber). A quick rinse a a good air drying and oiling produced a nice clean, works like new, tuning capacitor. For what its worth. . . . .

Any idea what the foot thing costs? Harbor Freight has a cleaner for about 40.

I would think around $50.00. I already had access to the footspa, and we don't have Harbour Freight here. The foot spa is also quite large maybe 2 gallons so it will hold a lot. If I was going to buy a cleaner, I would go with the Ultrsonic. This was just sometimg that I had available and it worked.
