I had several boxes of unboxed tubes to sort. The kitchen table was a nice large space so I could keep piles of similar tubes here and there. Almost lost several due to them rolling off the table. Looking for a solution, I thought about a large sheet of small bubble wrap that I had. I spread it out on the table and put the tubes on it and they didn't roll around anymore. No more falling off the table. Sorted tubes stayed where I put them and didn't get mixed up again.

I rolled it up to use next time if I don't forget where I put it and what I was saving it for.

The lucky ones realize the "Good Ole Days" while they are still in them!

I have the same problem when examining ball bearings at work. They scatter. I lay down cloth or paper towel to keep them from rolling. For tubes a thick blanket should work. The noise from working on bubble wrap would get to me. Not the popping, but the general crinkling noise.
