I fabricated a replacement seal for a domestic appliance from a piece of scrap bicycle inner tube. I thought hot glue would stick it in place. Did not work! The hot glue stuck well to the plastic case but made no adhesion at all to the rubber.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or is it common knowledge that I should have known?
Cheers,
Roger
EDIT I have changed the title to better represent the issue in the light of comments received.

Your butyl rubber inner tube may have had a processing lubricant film. Solvent degrease and use a cyanoacrylate adhesive.

3M make hot-melt glue sticks for rubber, but they are usually sold in $$ industrial quantities.

Greg.

Greg, I think you're right. I cleaned and degreased a section of rubber inner-tube and scrubbed it hard. The hot glue stuck fairly well... about three times a well as to the coated original (was very weak.) So, we can presume, for now, that hot glue sticks to cleaned and roughened rubber, although it can still be pulled off relatively easily.
Cheers,
Roger
