B&K Components Reference 20 Front Panel

Post by cferry1 »

B&K Components model Reference 20
5.1 Channel Surround Preamplifier / Processor

Unit has incurred very poor front panel pushbutton / switch activation over its lifetime.
These front panel pushbuttons are labeled as SLEEP, PRESET, ENTER, MENU, DOWN, UP, SOURCE, MODE, LEVEL.

Each of these pushbuttons is derived from ( WIKIPEDIA Quote ) :
Piezoelectricity (/ˌpiːzoʊ-, ˌpiːtsoʊ-, paɪˌiːzoʊ-/, US: /piˌeɪzoʊ-, piˌeɪtsoʊ-/)[1] is the electric charge that accumulates in certain solid materials—such as crystals, certain ceramics, and biological matter such as bone, DNA, and various proteins—in response to applied mechanical stress.[2] The word piezoelectricity means electricity resulting from pressure and latent heat. It is derived from the Greek word πιέζειν; piezein, which means to squeeze or press, and ἤλεκτρον ēlektron, which means amber, an ancient source of electric charge.[3][4]

The piezoelectric effect results from the linear electromechanical interaction between the mechanical and electrical states in crystalline materials with no inversion symmetry.[5] The piezoelectric effect is a reversible process: materials exhibiting the piezoelectric effect also exhibit the reverse piezoelectric effect, the internal generation of a mechanical strain resulting from an applied electrical field. END QUOTE.

Correction :
Remove the 9 centered Red LED's from each of these pushbutton's positions on the front panel pushbutton circuit board. Center and physically position / epoxy into place / "new" low profile tactile switches for each pushbutton. Tactile switch with or without internal to the switch, various colored LED options.
Suggested tactile switch : Manufacturer APEM , base part number 5GTH920.
