I have restored tons of these things. They are not rare nor amazing sets either way.

Because one bidder wants it badly. Plastic tabletops usually don't do much for me, but this one is pretty nice looking. I wouldn't pay more than $250.00 for it, if I wanted to bid.

It can only be that spiffy, plastic wrapped, handle.

I'd give them 10 bucks for it.

If you look at the bidder history you'll find the bidders either bid half the time with this seller or they are brand new. I smell a fancy shill.

Could be shill bidder, but I doubt it. No bid retractions and the bids are getting near a point , if not already there, where the bidder will get stuck with it. Let see what happens.

Collectors do get goofy with over-hyped glossy typical plastic set, but not that goofy. It reeks of shills. Not a bad set, but if I saw it at $30 at the local antiques mall, I'd pass right by it.

Watching MASH right now; Frank Burns has that model in the swamp.

The pictures are funky. You don't get a clear look. Also, there's a hole drilled in the top near the middle in front of the handle.

Looks like a power on light in the top, not a hole. Radiomuseum photo has the same thing, whatever it is.
Since I don't have an interest in plastic tabletops I'm not sure which ones are valuable, but I've seen much higher prices than this paid for one.

Yeah the hole is supposed to be there. Zenith did this thing where they would put a small plastic "jewel" lens on top with the pilot light inside to shine through, I assume the indicate the radio was on.

1) it's in nice shape
2) it's complete
3) it's certainly one of the more attractive bakelite sets I've seen (that's just an opinion)
4) is it an AA6 miniature? has six tubes? and a three section tuning cap? =not common?
5) somebody wants it, and having seen a complete undamaged set in good condition, isn't about to let it go.

I understand this .... I did the same thing about fifteen or more years ago. My mom grew up with a Northern Electric "Midge" bullet set. I grew up with it too. Hers broke and she threw it out. I tracked down the same model in the condition this one being discussed it in. I paid through the nose and then some .... almost $200 as I recall, then volunteered to pay extra for super careful shipping. It was worth every nickle ... "to me" .... don't really care what anyone else thinks :)

We'll probably see it up for auction again some time in the future, by the same seller.
