This ad caught my eye. Says it works. Are these reliable? or easy to repair? doesn't look like anything I've seen with the separate amp. I'm a bit of a sucker for made in Montreal radios, but at $300. it's sorta outta my ball park.

In my early days of collecting I owned TWO of these beasts. I say beasts because they weigh as much as a cruise ship anchor. As a matter of fact, I permanently damaged my back lifting out the lower chassis which actually uses an early permanent magnet speaker which weighs about 25 lbs all by itself. I had them both for a few years and then I was delighted to give them away for FREE to a young, strong local collector. I don't remember them being particularly great performers either, just average. I think you could spend your $300 on much better consoles.

Thanks Michael, I think that's what I needed to hear. I will pass.

Although this 1930 model is by far less collectible than the debutante microsynchronous TRF of 1929 with its iconic 245 block amplifier, it is also by far not a bad performer. It is still a Victor, not an RCA product, although they lived under the same roof since a year. And as a Victor it does not have the RCA PM magnet speaker, but the far better Victor Rice-Kellogg field coil speaker.
