Seattle craigslist, pretty nearby to me... A pretty common radio.

But I cannot find another photo of one using this grill cloth. All of the photos I see around the web, including other similar models like the 4-A-21 and 4-A-23, have a bland, brown, patternless grill cloth.

And yet this looks pretty original, and that cloth looks fantastic on this radio. It really sets it off.

What do you think? Original, or replacement?

Greg.

Edit: what's with the dial-glass - has it been hit with a BB gun?

LOL. Guess I need to go back to Google image search. I usually just check 2 or 3 places I rely on and figure after that, there's nothing else to be seen.

Thanks, Greg!

Don't know about the dial... I wondered to. I figured the paint's probably just starting to peel off the back of it. Loosened, but hasn't flaked away yet.

I have one of those that I know to be original. The grill cloth is a more uniform color without the striations. I just took a picture of it using flash.

I think what you are seeing is a trick of lighting. The original grill cloth has reflective threads that I believe are giving the illusion of the striping you're seeing in the ad.

The clock is a Jefferson Golden Minute, slightly smaller and rarer than the Golden Hour mystery clocks. I was fascinated by them as a child, couldn't figure out how they worked.
