Horribly restored cabinet.

Quote:
Ships to: Local pick-up only

Bummer! I could have used that chassis for my empty cabinet.

Collectors have made that set a top-shelf model for a long time now. One of the most sought after '30's tombstone models. $1,000 is about right for a nice one these days. The one available is great opportunity to acquire one reasonably. I would just work with what's there. Repair the issues and bring down the gloss.

I would agree if the cabinet is in good original finish condition and the chassis hasn't been kludged.

Looks like it sold for the $300 on the 24th and now it's relisted for $300 again.

The buyer probably didn't read the stipulation that it was local pick up only so the set was relisted. If shipping was involved, I'd buy it.

I paid $1k for mine a number of years ago, but it is nice original finish and clean chassis. No regrets and it is one of my few keepers.
I would think that $300 would be a decent price for someone wanting a project....nothing like stripping thick poly...

Unless you have a nice original cabinet, that needs a chassis...... No, not me...

Which just happens to be my situation.

Sure it's got a few scratches and dings but I can live with that.

Now that is a nice AK 447 cabinet. It looks a lot like mine and not like that ruined one that I posted a picture of earlier in this thread that was bought for over $1,000 on eBay!

That's a good example of why radio collectors always said to never pick-up a cathedral or tombstone radio lifting it from under the top. At least your appears to have not hit the floor. It's so worth restoring that very nice example. One thing I have no idea about is who will work on a radio cabinet on Long Island. I'd actually like to know myself.

Kirk if you have the top section that broke off , I can repair cabinet and refinish it for you but you need to send to Texas for the repairs.

This one cost me a whopping $75. It was a BIN during the first minute of listing. Finish is original.

It will get done Joe, I just don't have time now.
I would help with your cabinets but I have 6 waiting already and it's been 2 years since I touched those.

Thanks Fred but I do my own cabinets. And No, The dolt tossed the top and side.
I have good photos to make the new parts but again.. No time these days...

Did these originally come with wood or plastic knobs? Mine had plastic when I bought it and I replaced them with another 447's wood knobs I found on the Internet.

TIA,

Terry
