I'm personally not a fan of chairside radios, but if I were going to have one, this would be high on my list. The duct tape around the field coil doesn't make for good vibes, but I think it's still a reasonable deal. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/atq/6039403989.html

Oowww, that is nice... Wish were here... Just a 5-tube radio no RF but I know the chassis and it is a good performer, slug tuned IF's. A couple of "deer turd" caps but if they ain't leakin'... Last resto I did left GL's on the deck and put in tie strips for new axials. Yup, rubber wiring but RCA in its infinite wisdom provides a diagrammatic makes replacing wiring somewhat easier. Does have a dial belt and a bit of pot metal in the band switch indicator, sometimes it is good.
Dial, FWIR, was called the "Sunburst" glows a pale orange, all over. The eye tube version is a bit odd with a green glow in field of orange...

I love the dial on this set. I have the table version which was a complete basket case. Almost done with the restoration...

RCA really did seem to eek the best performance possible out of low tube count sets. I own a couple late '30s RCAs with 5 and 6 tubes, and they often sound better than higher end sets. My first antique radio was an RCA 810k, which uses a very similar dial. It is a thing of art-deco beauty. The numerals are in the coolest art-deco font. The warpy tenite dial bezels are the biggest detractors from these sets, but this radio looks to have been really well cared for.

That's one's a no-brainer. You just can't go wrong at that price. I agree that dial is one of the all-time best. It always reminded me of a '30's Chysler-product car speedometer from that era. I'm surprised they didn't use the chassis with the tuning-eye with that model. A very nice example of art-deco style.

That is nice! Too far for me though. Ten years ago it'd be road trip time, but impulse road trips are over for me.

Apparently that radio is being sold by a thrift store (American Cancer Society Discovery Shop) in Fremont. That means that somebody actually GAVE that radio up for FREE! Gee, if the owner wanted simply to get Grandpa's radio out of his hair, he should have just thrown it on Craigslist. That's such a nice radio that the owner could have easily pocketed a few hundred bucks for it. So many people today are looking to get big bucks for radios in awful shape that it's unusual to see somebody simply give one to a thrift store.

The way that wiring is patched up I'm betting that's a PM speaker under that tape, looks like the original plug off to the left a bit...and the universal OPT helps with the argument. Phil
