I had to laugh when I saw this listing. $800 for an unrestored tv that has a squashed up raster?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Working-Vintag ... 0005.m1851

I guess I can chalk this up to more ebay "amusement".

Yeah, they are certainly entitled to ask however much they want to, for their own amusement or anyone else's for that matter. Not much chance of selling at that price though. Stranger things have happened.

if it were local, I would put down 100 bucks.

I would like to have an old tv like that in great physical shape.

I found another one, more fun: https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-1950s-VIN ... 100623.m-1

At least the seller admits that this one doesn't work. Is this set actually rare? I'm not too much of a tv person, so I don't know.

Rare is difficult to assign to just anything that shows up, but sellers often assume that something is rare (or even the only one in existence) just because they can't find another one like it by doing a search.

CBS Columbia was certainly never a major manufacturer of TV's and not all that many of them were sold back in the day, so in that regard it's less common than something like an Admiral or an RCA or Zenith. That doesn't qualify it as rare though.

The one in question is just a basic series string chassis (some would say entry level) with nothing special about it that would make it stand out from the millions of other 21" consoles from the 1950's.
