This seller has posted several radios, and he has 2 prices on each. One price if it doesn't work, and, oh... Five or so times that if it does! (And as usual, some odd concept that the console is worth the most because it's biggest!)

Odd sales tactic I haven't seen before...

$25 if it doesn't work, $125 if it does.

Just assume none of those radios work or work properly and that you'll have to electronically restore them anyway. Don't test any of the radios and pay only the non working prices. As far as the seller might be concerned, if a radio hums or crackles when turned on, it works. Just hope none of the transformers or speakers are shot.

Seller needs to get a new camera. That whole fuzzy, foggy, look gets tiring real fast.

Yeah, good point. Might want to message the seller and ask what his determination of "works" means. Tell him to you it means that the radio picks up numerous broadcast stations.

How else though would he be able to hide all the blemishes?

Sounds like an odd gimmick. Just pay the price for a non-worker and test on your variac later.

I've sent a text to the seller- I'm willing to pay the "non-working" price for a few of these, or perhaps a bit more, but not much. I'll let you guys know how it goes! :P

It's all negotiable. If he's motivated to sell you should do fine.

Yea, dodos call anything radio or electronics "working" if it meets minimum criteria such as "lights up" "makes noise" "hums". I am still waiting for a story like, "Garage burns down, house saved" "Victim said he plugged in an old radio he was going to sell on ebay..."

I was just in an antique mall Sunday where I found a vendor with 4 radios from a big Grundig table set to a little RCA BP-10. The vendor herself was actually present, and after I looked the radios over, she asked, "Are you a radio guy?" I answered yes, and she said, "The big one works. I couldn't get it to tune in any stations, but it did come on."

I looked at her and said, "So that's like a TV that has sound but no picture? That kind of working?"

She looked a little embarassed, chuckled, and said, "Yeah, maybe, but I guess in my mind, when it came on and I could hear static, I thought it was basically working."

I chuckled too, and walked away shaking my head without saying anything else.

^ But that seems to be the way the general population describes these now. As long as it "powers up", to their minds it's "working".

Yeah, I agree. The seller hasn't been very responsive and has only asked which ones I'm interested in. That's ok, I've got my eyes on another set that I think is in better shape than any of these, so I'll be happy with whatever I end up getting. Can't get them all, even though I'd like to.
