Not sure about this, but it gives me an uneasy feeling. On June 1st I ordered an antenna analyzer from eBay, I had looked at a few sellers of the same item and this seller had reasonable feedback. Additionally I was able to view their feedback on only the analyzer, and it was all good. On June 6th I received a message from the seller saying that there would be a delay but they would send me a free gift, some kind of Chinese charm. On the 11th they sent another message stating that the Dragon Boat festival had caused delays but they gave me a tracking number. It turns out that the tracking number was for the charm not the analyzer.

Since they put the tracking number into the item information, as far as eBay would be concerned, the item has arrived. In the envelope with the charm was a letter stating that the package is being shipped separately and they provided a link to 17Track and the tracking number. I checked 17Track, there is no record of the number.

I have responded to the sellers message from the 11th to let them know that the tracking number is not in the tracking system. I have asked for an update of the tracking number and to change the status of the shipping information on eBay with the correct tracking number.

If they do not respond to my message I will start a claim.

Start a claim and perhaps it will result in eBay sending you a return label for the charm. You should get a refund when tracking shows the charm has been returned to the seller

That will be my plan, no response from seller yet but with time difference and the likelihood of this being a scam I guess I should not expect one any time soon.

Well if you saved your messages, those are evidence in your favor. Any feedback from any other buyers since you made your order?

File the claim stating not as described and include pictures to eBay.

I completely agree! Seller may be out of stock too, and just putting you off.

That's what I think but that's no excuse for shipping something else in it's place, PERIOD. What the shipper did is absolutely unkosher to Ebay's rules and policies and you need to file a clam as soon as possible.

Thanks all,

Today the seller sent me a new tracking number that is at least in the system, and they added it to the shipping info on eBay. Who knows if it is really my package or another charm?
If I understand the eBay 'not as described" policy, I have 30 days from the time that I received the item to submit a claim. If that is the case I will watch the tracking for a couple more days to see if it moves.

I have seen where Chinese sellers will bend over backwards to be sure they don't get dinged with a poor rating. Ebay or otherwise.

The gift may have been their way to soften the blow?

I'm glad all worked out and you got your analyzer! :D

Yes, I think so, they told me of the delay and that they were sending a gift. I guess I would have thought that the gift would be in the box with the analyzer, not separately a week before. Oh well, all good now.

I did see that they had a negative or two for sending the gift instead of the item. Perhaps the buyer did not wait to see if the real item would arrive before putting in a claim.

Glad the ending was good for you. I once ordered a fairly expensive book on vintage coin-machines and did not get the item or any response for an uncomfortable amount of time. Once I wrote that I was going to file a claim, the book arrived, signed by the author, with long note of apology.

Good for you Russ! I am glad to hear this ended on a positive note. I hope the seller starts including a note with his gift explaining the item is delayed but still coming.
