This Searchlight just sold for on eBay for $1527 and change - worth it? As rare as the seller claims - 12 sets or less known?

Value on a given day is whatever someone is willing to pay. The flip side is that the odds of reselling it the next day for that price are probably pretty low.
The seller may have set a new record for the number of redundant pictures......

They seem to be selling in the $1200 - $1500 range. I don't believe that there are only 12 around as they pop up here and there.

I don't believe the number of 12 or less either, over the years I think I have seen many times that number of them at the radio shows.

The price is what it is on any given day, totally depending on how many buyers are interested and how much they are willing to pay.

$1200-$1500 sounds like the right ballpark to me. The seller claimed in his description the same model sold- not asked - SOLD! on eBay for $3700 last year - could two or more bidders have had simultaneous nervous breakdowns?

The value is about right. More of a retail price, but typical. I've paid between $400 and $900.

As far as only 12, no way. I have 3, had a 4th and sold it last year to a collector friend. I know of at least 6 other collectors that have one, plus there have been some on eBay through the years. There are tell-tale characteristics that show they're not the same radio... some have eye tubes, some don't, some have off-center grille bars, some are missing decals, some have the wrong dial or knobs, etc.

I bought my first Searchlight back in 1991 and have been doing a lot of following and research on this model. Unfortunately, there's not much documentation.
