Would have loved to make one more trip through the 3rd floor to pick up some items, but obviously not possible. It was a wonderful source for all sorts of electronic parts, provided one had the patience to search for what they needed.

I was there on the day that the building was sold, and am surprised that they remained open this long. I'm curious though, exactly who would bid on such large quantities of stuff, and what they plan to do with the items once they have them? From what I've heard from the competitors, they have about zero interest in Mendelson's inventory. So who does that leave to bid?

Seems to me they are supposed to vacate the building within the next few months. That will be quite an operation to get everything out of there.

The motors will be sold less than scrap will just go to recyclean yard.
That stand up tube tester is by itself.

I had been getting thing thru there 50% off but when this health issue started they closed
You be lucky to get 10% use out of anyone set of items.
The switches might be 20%.
THE meters have too much damage.
The knobs are tempting they fill full size van.
We still have Fair Radio in lima ohio.on line doesn't give a good idea
What they have I dug around for 2 days.
Then electronic surplus around Cleveland, not open to public
.midwest surplus is in fairborn
Small but good.
Then there is a guy on bay good deals dayton or something. That buys from mendelsons.
One that started about 2 yrs ago 30 mile nw of dayton
Surplus electronics I think he buys from there..
Mendelsons sold and may still sells on the bay.
He has many other buildings around dayton..he got 7.3m for two buildings
. He has done well.

I'm glad I managed to get some shopping done before the shutdown. But I could do more.
I was too hoping they would reopen the 3rd floor.

Quote:
All perspective webcast bidders must post a 25% deposit of approximate planned spending budget or minimum of $5,000.00 in order to be approved. No exceptions will be made.

That leaves me out. I won't be bidding on anything then.

At that minimum buy in to even bid, I wonder if ANYONE will be bidding? That leaves it up to other businessmen with deep pockets. I just don't see it happening given the stuff that's up there having very limited appeal or usefulness. It would take many years to turn a profit even if one were very selective about what they bought.

If there are minimum bids on each lot, or reserve pricing, this may be a non-event.

I wonder if this liquidator will post the final results for each lot after the auction?

They r suppose to be changing that.but correct they r scaring off bidders now.
But maybe they don't sell at auction they'll go to 70% OFF.
Then I'll buy some more :)

I'm sure the tube stock will have some spirited bidding.

Perhaps, but for what?
That tube inventory has been picked over and picked over to death!
There is nothing there but common and useless tubes for the most part.

Do you see anything in those pictures worth anything? I've been through that place with a fine tooth comb.

By far the most valuable thing in the tube area is the metal shelving the tubes are stored on, followed by the bin boxes the tubes are in, followed by the individual tube cartons.

The tubes themselves, unfortunately not much value there, they are 99% TV types which there is little to no demand for today and I don't see that ever changing.

Will they sell? Maybe, but not to any of the established tube dealers. They already have more of those tube types than they will ever be able to sell and they know it.

I can see someone with little knowledge of tubes and desirability buying the lot thinking they see a gold mine and later on finding it isn't.

Last time I was there a few months ago before you know what, I saw a big plastic tray on a cart. It was full to overflowing with electronic parts. All and every kind of parts. Resistors transistors ICs caps switches, like a mini Mendelsons in a box. I don't know if was someones junkbox, or floor sweepings, or boxes that had been spilled or what. I took it to the counter and talked the guy into letting me have it for 20$. There was an audio output module in there that is apparently scarce and they are on ebay for 100$. It was all a big mix and I spent many many hours sorting thru the stuff. That is what I told the counterman, no one is ever ever gonna sort this stuff out for you. So, plastic containers for caps, resistors, transistors, etc. etc. Sorted all the resistors into my resistor bins, two big handfuls of those. Have not sorted the container full of diodes. Or ICs, or capacitors, yet. Transistors sorted and bagged. I saw some 10.7 crystal IF Motorola filters in a bin in a drawer and should have grabbed them. But the problem is they had shopping baskets that had openings big enough for small parts to fall thru. Bad idea. Alot of their meters were beat up or damaged from dodos dropping them or bad storage but I have gotten plenty of cheap meters there in the past. Maybe Midwest can get some of the inventory. They even had spools of cloth wire around if you were careful to search for it. The tubes, yea well the audio tubes were gone many years ago.

Yet another light goes out....sad:(. That's within a few hours driving distance for me, everal years ago I picked up a bargain of a lifetime there, maybe 50 TIL311 hexadecimal displays (which are now very rare and expensive, absolutely needed if you are restoring or recreating 1970's microcomputers) for like $1.00 each, I traded them all away for stuff that I REALLY needed.

Well all you need to do to understand why electronic surplus is going extinct, is look inside of any current device. It is all unfathomable, inscrutable, and disposable.
