Not radio related, but I advertised an astronomy book on Cloudy Nights Forum and a Canadian member wanted me to ship it to him. I was offering the book for $49 with free Media Mail shipping, and he understood that it would cost more for international shipping.

Anyway, I have a USPS account so I put the info in to get him a price. The book is in a box that is 12"x16"x3" and weighs 3#11 oz. First class International came up as being $50, and Priority International was the best price at $45. I was shocked.

He is in Osoyoos BC V0H1V6

Any other options for getting this book to him reasonably? or is this it. I wonder if Ebay Global Shipping would do better if I listed it there.

I lost a sale of a DVD due to cost of shipping to Canada. It was almost $30 to send the disk in a mailer, much more than what I was asking for the DVD. I have sold to some Canadians that have a friend near the border in the U.S. so shipping is to a domestic address where they can drive across the border to pick it up.

Shipping any package which is more than 1 cu ft is quite expensive now. Osoyoos is on the border, so perhaps you could ship the book to Oroville, WA.

Except they can’t cross the border right now to pick it up no matter how close they live

I thought the USPS discounted shipping costs for reading material.

Good point. That should qualify for Media Mail.

There is no international Media Mail. I feel bad for our friends to the North of us.

Right, it's a cold cruel world out there. There is a place in Omak, Washington where Canadians used to pick up parcels, but not now.

Freight is still moving across the border, but another carrier adds another fee.
Here's the killer, the Canadian dollar is down to less than 76 cents US. So that's almost $70 shipping for the buyer. :x

Canadian shipping has gone berserk in cost. What was $7 is now at least $35. I lost a sale of three 1N5GT tubes due to $35 shipping cost and USPS only offered Priority mail service.
