Seller doesn’t know anything about it, said it was “given to her by a friend”

Looks to me like it’s been worked on in the past, looks to have new wiring, and the body looks so good that I’d be shocked if that was the original finish. She did say it’s working, but idk if it was recapped or not.

I messaged her last night and she wants 150$ for it, not sure whether I should try for it or not.

I'm guessing it was made by Howard as a generic brand radio. The knobs don't look to be original, the grill cloth has been replaced and the chassis has been cleaned up so I'll guess the electronics have been restored but to what degree, who knows. Some radios were sold without any brand names on them, pure generic.

If that set did have a brand name on it, most likely it would have been in the form of a brass tag attached just below the dial. Check to see if there's two tiny nail holes left behind. If there isn't then this radio was originally sold as a nameless radio. If there is two nail holes then this radio was probably sold under one of a number of possible generic brand names.

Pure generic...so probably a pass then. While it does look nice, and probably fully recapped, and it is from the era I’ve been interested in lately, I’m not sure I want a generic set, at least not anywhere close to the price she’s asking for it.
